Halkidiki is comprised of three peninsulas located southeast of Thesaloniki in the northern part of Greece. Mount Athos and a number of monasteries are situated on the easternmost peninsula, whereto the public has no access. Boat trips along the coastline are popular, however, and provides a glimpse of some of the many monasteries. When we visit the area we live in the seaside village Kalithea on the eastcoast of the westernmost peninsula "Kassandra".
